Fleur-de-lis. For the Catholic Church it is the symbol of the Virgin and it first appeared on the cover of the Vulgate Bible. In old maps, it pointed north and was used as a symbol to indicate the right track. It represents defence of good and appears in the symbols of the Order of Santiago and later the Boy Scouts. It is also a heraldic symbol representative of French nobility.
